Caban y Buarth is a design‑led cabin retreat in North Wales, set on a peaceful five‑acre smallholding at the foothills of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park. Overlooking the Menai Strait and the Isle of Anglesey, the cabin offers sweeping coastal and mountain views, with direct footpaths leading to Mynydd Mawr and breath taking sections of the 83‑mile (133km) Snowdonia Slate Trail, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Surrounded by a shifting landscape of mountains, moorland, quiet lakes and historic quarries, it’s an ideal base for travellers seeking hiking adventures, rock climbing, cycling, kayaking or exploring the Wales Coast Path and local castles. This minimalist hillside hideaway is shaped by natural materials and the slow rhythms of the land.
The Story Behind the Cabin
I’m Joanne, and I moved to a peaceful hillside in North Wales to embrace a slower, more intentional way of living, shaped by my years in the design industry and running fine art galleries. From that shift came Caban y Buarth — a small, minimalist retreat created to sit quietly within the landscape and offer others the calm, clarity and connection to nature I found here.
Slow Living in North Wales
Life here follows the pace of the land. Days are shaped by weather, light and the natural quiet of the hillside. Guests often use their stay to reset — reading, cooking, walking or unwinding after their adventures exploring the mountain peaks. The cabin sits above the quiet agricultural village of Y Fron, where Red Kites, Buzzards and the occasional Eagle circle overhead, livestock roam freely and a deep sense of peace prevails.
This slower rhythm makes the cabin ideal for:
Wellness breaks in North Wales
Digital detox stays
Creative retreats and writing escapes
Hiking holidays in Snowdonia
Outdoor pursuits: rock climbing, kayaking, wild‑swimming
Exploring North Wales castles

Inside the Cabin:
The interior of Caban y Buarth offers open‑plan living shaped by natural textures, warm oiled plywood walls and a calm, neutral palette. Designed with a minimalist approach, the cabin includes:
A cosy wood burner
A fully equipped kitchen
Low accent chairs & dining area
Large picture windows framing hillside & coastal views
A peaceful sleeping space with soft, warm lighting
A mezzanine reading nook
A stylish bathroom with shower, standard flushing loo & skylights
This design‑led simplicity appeals to travellers seeking minimalist accommodation in North Wales, romantic Snowdonia cabins and quiet creative retreats.
Mountains, Coast and Castles: Exploring North Wales
From the cabin, you’re perfectly placed to explore both the mountains and the coast. Within a short drive you’ll find:
Dinas Dinlle, Harlech & Newborough beaches with vast low‑tide sands
Caernarfon Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
Beddgelert, one of Snowdonia’s most charming villages
Llanberis, at the foot of Yr Wyddfa / Snowdon between Llyn Padarn & Llyn Peris
Boat trips to explore the Menai Strait, Isle of Anglesey & Puffin Island
Slate quarries & industrial heritage trails
Yr Wyddfa / Snowdon routes & viewpoints
Portmeirion - an Italianate village with gardens, coastal paths & colourful architecture
Ffestiniog Railway — a historic narrow‑gauge steam railway through dramatic slate landscapes
For travellers searching for North Wales holiday ideas, Snowdonia itineraries or coastal‑and‑mountain breaks, this location offers the best of both worlds.
Evenings at the Cabin
As dusk settles over the hillside, the cabin becomes a warm, quiet refuge. Light the wood burner, cook a simple meal, or sit outside by the fire‑pit and watch the most incredible sunsets & the stars begin to appear — this area sits within a designated Dark Sky Reserve and is ideal for stargazing.
It’s the kind of evening that brings guests back again and again, searching for that same sense of calm.
